About Grant Safety Solutions
A native of West Virginia, Joel Sandy was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant from the West Virginia University ROTC program in 1988. He graduated from the Initial Entry Rotary Wing course in 1991. He has a Bachelor degree is History from WVU and Master’s Degree from Marshall University in Occupational Health and Safety. He is a graduate of the Army’s Airborne School, Aviation and Engineer Office Advance Courses, Command and General Staff School and the Army’s Fixed Wing Course. He also attended the Army’s Accident Investigation course and the Army’s Instructor course (ITC)
He is a veteran of Operation Enduring Freedom returning from Afghanistan in March 2013, serving as the Task Force CEASAR commander. Served as the State Safety Manager for three years. He also has a tour as the Fixed Wing Detachment OIC in Egypt and Israel in 2010-2011 working with the Multinational Force & Observers (MFO) piloting a C-23 for observation and transport. He also a former Commander of the Army National Guard Fixed Wing (FWAATS) schoolhouse from 2005-2008. He also worked at FWAATS as the Executive Officer from 2001 to 2005. Worked as an Aviation Facility Commander and the 111th Engineer Brigade Training Officer supervising multiple construction project from 1994-1997.
Joel has a strong commitment to education after serving as the State Safety Manager and the Fixed Wing Schoolhouse Commander. He has conducted over 500 facility safety inspections. Joel helped identify and mitigate many RAC hazards in Armories, Flight Facilities, Maintenance Facilities and Readiness Centers. Education is the key to reducing the risks our soldiers face on a daily basis.
Mr. Sandy started Grant Safety Solutions, LLC in April 2013 after returning from Afghanistan and retiring from the West Virginia Army National Guard after 26 years. The Grant name is in honor of his grandfather and father Ulysses Grant Sandy Senior and Junior.
